Dr. Mixon has been practicing veterinary medicine for 21 years, since receiving his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at The University of Florida in 1996.  After graduating, he practiced in St. Petersburg, Florida for one year. From there he moved to the Orlando, Florida area to work at and eventually purchase Alafaya Trail Animal Hospital, where he stayed until 2006.  In 2006 Dr. Mixon and his family moved to Connecticut where he purchased Newtown Veterinary Center in Newtown.  At the end of 2017, after being the sole veterinarian for eleven years, he made the professional and personal decision to join the staff here at Brookfield Animal Hospital.

 

Dr. Mixon’s veterinary interests are many, but he particularly enjoys orthopedic and soft-tissue surgery.  He also has an interest in preventive healthcare with a focus on client education as well as good nutrition and lifestyle.  Dr. Mixon is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, and the Connecticut Veterinary Medical Association.

 

When Dr. Mixon isn’t spending time with his two teenage children, he is a musician who plays the guitar and drums, and spends much of his leisure time in the outdoors hiking and kayaking, year-round.  Dr. Mixon also has two cats named, “Sweet-Charms” and “Stinky.”
