The CT Post singled out Brookfield Animal Hospital for taking extra steps to keep clients and medical team safe during COVID-19.

Brookfield Animal Provides “Curbside Care” To Limit Exposure

Brookside Animal Hospital was one of the first veterinary practices in our area to put in place a ‘curbside care’ protocol.  Clients call the office when they pull into our parking lot, speak to a veterinary professional, and explain their pet’s medical condition.  Then one of our team members dons a protective gown, cap, face mask and gloves; goes to the client’s car; and retrieves the pet to bring inside our practice for a medical evaluation.  After we determine the medical treatment plan, we call the client again, explain our findings, safely take payment over the phone, and then transport the pet, along with any medications, back to the pet owner.

Protocol Extends Office Visit Time

As you can imagine, these extra steps add quite a bit of time to an appointment. What used to take 20 minutes, can now take as much as an hour and the expense of the additional time and protective equipment is not passed onto the client. Brookfield absorbs all of this cost to as a way to limit coronavirus in our community and to keep our family, friends, employees, and clients all safe.

Can Pets Transmit Coronavirus?

There is no evidence that pets can transmit coronavirus, but out of extreme caution, the Center for Disease Control and the American Veterinary Medical Association recommend that we behave as though any animal could possibly transport coronavirus on his or her fur, nose, or paws if contact was made with the virus in the environment. Some veterinary practices are taking the extra precaution to wipe down a pet’s fur and paws with safe, non-toxic antiseptic wipes before examining or treating.

Brookfield Continues To Offer Veterinary Care During COVID-19 Outbreak

We’d like to thank our veterinarians and support team members for their efforts to work with the public and to be here for the needs of our patients.  Brookfield’s veterinary care is considered an essential service in our state, and our employees are dedicated to being here for your pet’s urgent medical needs. We ask that if your pet requires a more routine service like a vaccine booster or an annual exam, that you phone us so that we can reschedule your pet’s visit for a time when it is safer to leave your home.
